Nintendo 3DS to be available this October instead of early next year?

Nintendo might be fast-tracking its upcoming 3DS. Apparently one UK video game industry source stated to CVG that the 3D gaming system will launch this coming October, well before the 2011 date we previously heard. The goal here is to get the system to market prior to the Christmas shopping madness.

This doesn’t mean, however, that the system will hit the states or Europe this year. Nintendo generally releases its systems in its home of Japan well before exporting them to other markets. The 3DS could very well follow the same precedent.

But then again, Microsoft’s Project Natal is also supposed to be launched later this year so maybe Nintendo is moving up the launch date in response. Who knows really. Chances are Nintendo will announce its plans at E3 this June.
