Sorry David, I don’t think you did your research. $14M for sex.com is chump change compared to business.com which sold for $345M in 2007. Also worth mentioning are fund.com (mentioned in comments above) for $10M in 2008 and porn.com for $9.5M.

I think he was talking pure domain plays….which is why he mentioned the $7.5 million transaction and not the sale for the full working Business.com company.

beauty.cc sold for $1 Million in 2000. Some question of it’s actual cash price, and the deal’s legitimacy, but still a lot of money for a non com/net/org.

Yes, that’s a fair enough point but considering that the price was an unbelievable 23 times the actual revenue the site was generating, I think we can be fairly confident that a fair proportion of that price was for the domain name. Admittedly, it’s impossible to quantify how much but I think it’s still easily the most expensive domain name sale.

You really should be accurate and say something like “the highest REPORTED sale was…” because your examples, while publicly announced, are far from the largest sales – even for just a pure domain. Fact is, most sales that happen in the 7 & 8 figure range are purposefully kept private with non-disclosures all around.

Sorry, that’s not $15M revenue but $15M EBITDA.
