Tuenti is #1 downloaded app in the Spanish iPhone App Store

Tuenti #1 in Spanish iphone app store

[Spain] We covered Tuenti, Spain’s leading youth social network, quite recently when they outnumbered Facebook and Google in pageviews in Spain. Today, Tuenti has done it again.

Only 4 days after releasing their iPhone App, they’re #1 in the Spanish App Store with the company reporting 43,500 activations, and the app receiving an impressive 870 reviews.  They climbed up to first place a mere 8 hours after launch. To put that into some perspective, Facebook is currently in 12th place and has been reviewed 414 times.

The iPhone and iPod touch app’s most sought after feature is likely to become the instant messaging that will allow Tuenti’s users to interact on the go.  Tuenti for iPhone also integrates photo uploads, tagging, and calendar access. I would guess that an Android app makes much less sense for their younger user-base, at least for the time being.

It’s a an exciting step for Tuenti as they are investing considerable efforts into mobile. They’ve recently enticed ex-America Online, Sean Kean, to join as Vice President of Mobil to help them fulfill their mobile aspirations.
