Sony officially announces Motion Controller in Fall 2010

Sony wants you to know that the “Motion Controller” will be available worldwide this Fall. It’s also adamant that the name “Motion Controller” is a tentative name for now. We’ve heard murmurs that it’d be called “Gem,” but for now it’s “Motion Controller.” I’d suggest that Sony call it “Purple Bulb Knob,” but the company’s official strategy is “Don’t Listen to Doug.”

Oh, a couple other things. You’ll need to have the PlayStation Eye camera to use the Motion Controller. And Sony “will vigorously promote the Motion Controller as the de facto controller of the PS3 platform along with the DUALSHOCK series controller and will deploy various measures to enhance the software title line-up for the Motion Controller, delivering groundbreaking interactive entertainment only possible on the PS3 platform.”

That’s about it. No pricing or firm launch date beyond Fall. Full press release here.
