Later tonight, Vevo, the “Hulu for music videos,” being launched by YouTube and several of the record labels, is set to go live. But there’s already some Vevo content appearing on YouTube itself right now.
As you can see on this page, YouTube has an account fo EminemVEVO. It appears this is a way to cross promote for the new service. Not only is the video branded with the Vevo logo (which we’ve seen previously), but the page its on features links to visit Vevo (which currently points to the Vevo Blog), as well as the artists’ areas on the site. There are many of these YouTube/Vevo pages popping up, here’s Toby Keith’s, for example.
Vevo inked a deal with EMI the other day to make Warner the last remaining major label holdout for the project. Warner does have an agreement with YouTube to host its music videos there, but the other labels have all agreed to eventually move their content from YouTube over to Vevo (though oddly, they’ll still be hosted by YouTube, which they’ll get paid for). These videos will still be served up for free, but will be supported by advertising in a way that’s expected to be similar to the Hulu model (which itself could change next year).
Already, users on YouTube are seeing these heavy Vevo promotions and getting annoyed.
Update: And here’s the main channel.

I do wonder how much revenue will be generated from music vids? Everyone says, “MTV still plays music videos?” I don’t think MTV made a switch to show programming due to making a ton of cash off videos.
Who makes the money off the video? The label or the artist?
Wow and they allow nudity with these music videos on YouTube?

looks weak
This is exciting. I’m not sure why they are making artists have new 3 YouTube URLs (original account, VEVO account, international VEVO account) though.
I’d love something to be done in this fashion for lyrics. The idea that Metrolyrics is the best legal resource for lyrics is absurd.
sad times we live in.
same rules for advertising online and print. Besides you do want to show and own the piece you own.
I wonder if youtube will allow you to pull vevo videos through the api… who gets paid then
Never going to live up to their valuation
Would be nice if it worked. Thrilled they are having a big party in NYC. Think they should make sure the site works first. Doesn’t load. Broken links everywhere and i can’t stream a video. Sweet.
Unbelievable, I just went there and there are all sorts of problems. For $300M maybe they should just buy something that works.
It’ll be interesting to see how this pans out and whether or not it is a success. Personally, this is the first time I’ve heard of Vevo.
whoa vevo looks amazing
i love it. perfect. this could be music’s central location on the internet.
hopefully they dont go overboard with ads. the pre-roll ads in videos are only a few seconds long. the bottom frame has an ad on the left corner every now and then.
site is having problems right now but its probably from traffic or something.
also the volume and other video controls are clipped by the bottom frame as well.
It’s sad when something is announced globally (I don’t recall any info there would be restrictions on their first site) and then – presto – “VEVO is currently not available in your country”.

I regret I mentioned about this launch to my colleagues.
Job job Vevo…for news videos watch professionally tagged premium videos at http://www.videocrux.com/
Even the YouTube channel is limited across Europe.
I hope they won’t do the same like Hulu (witch never launched here).
Vevo….I shall put you in the “FAIL” and “REGRET” list…
