UK university startups get their own version of Hacker News

Everyone needs a pink UMID mbook

Hacker News, the now influential news aggregator about tech startups born out of Ycombinator, has been of huge value to a community not only keen to learn but to track the latest development on the Web.

But the conversation there is distinctly Silicon Valley oriented. So I am excited to learn of a new aggregator called Uni Startups. Clearly it’s aimed at people creating startups while they are at university, but being built on Slinkset, it’s already up and running and pulling in stories. It’s also got a widget you can embed, which I’ve done below.

I want to encourage everyone to share this site and get some of those students on the startup road.

Update: The site was put together by @Isaac_Lewis

I’m the guy who created that website – I wanted to get it up for Internet Enterprise Day in Warwick this Friday – We’re trying to build a startup hub for the West Midlands centred around Warwick university. Tickets for the day are sold out but you should be able to catch the live stream (it’s all day this Friday, Nov 20th).

    1. It’s not just about startups. It’s also heavily geared to programming.

    2. It’s not distinctly Silicon Valley oriented at all. If you can code or you have a web startup you code, you’re welcome.

This is just awesome :) It’s these small pieces that together could end up making a big difference to the UK startup scene. Universities will play a big role.
