In light of the recent VBlocks announcement, I think maybe VMWare didn’t want to let the cat out of the bag that they were going to provide turnkey infrastructure solutions for unified compute. Couple this with long range DRS and you’ve got the ability to move instances (workloads) from say your private VBlock, to the Savvis cloud to the Terremark cloud. That’s no vendor lock in for the cloud services themselves, while leveraging what I consider to be the superior hypervisor in the market with superior management tools. I write more in my blogposts.
