Samsung is rolling out some new products this spring, and they want you to know all about it. We’ll be looking at three basic product lines: their mp3 players, Blu-ray players, and LED-backlit televisions. We saw some of these at CES, but now they’re priced and official.
First up, MP3 players. Three new models coming out, the P3, the Q2, and the U5. The P3 is a widescreen unit with a 3-inch screen, allowing you to view video in a 16:9 format. It’s available with 8, 16, or 32GB of flash memory. The P3 also has a built in FM tuner, and touchscreen navigation. Prices vary based on capacity of course, the 8GB is $149, the 16GB is $199, and the 32GB is $299. Available May 2009.
The Q2 is pretty much your standard MP3 player with video playback, with a 2.4-inch LCD, and is available in 8GB or 16GB flavors. Pricing is quite reasonable at $99 for the 8GB, and $129 for the 16GB. This product line should be available in April.
Last we have the U5, a pretty basic unit. It’s got a black and white screen, and is only available in a 2GB model. It also has the lowest price, at $39.99. The U5 is also available next month.
Next up, the Blu-ray players. Samsung has always done well with these products, and this year is no exception. We’re looking at three different products again, the BD-P4600, the BD-P3600, and the BD-P1600. All three support 1080p playback, HDMI 1.3 output and support Netflix and Pandora streaming.
The BD-P4600 is the ultra-slim, top-of-the-line unit with “Touch of Color” accents and touch pad controls. This unit is priced at $499.99 (!), and will be available in April. The BD-P3600 also features the “Touch of Color” but is not quite so slim. It’s priced at $399.99, and is available now. The BD-P1600 is the basic unit; it still features full HD and Netflix streaming, but is a traditional design, and priced at $299.99, and is also available now.
Finally, we have Samsung’s new LED HDTV’s. All three models support 1080p, DivX, MP3 and JPEG decoders, and are available with the “Touch of Color” “feature.” The top-of-the-line models, the 8000 series (available in 54.6-inch and 45.9-inch) feature Internet@TV and feature 240Hz frame interpolation. The 54.6-inch is $3999.99, the 45.9-inch is $3299.99, and both are scheduled to be available in May.
The 7000 series is available in 54.6, 45.9, and 39.9-inch sizes, the 54.6-inch is $3799.99, the 45.9-inch is $2999.99 and are available now, the 39.9-inch is priced at $2499.99 and will be available next month.
The 6000 series lacks the Internet@TV features, but is available in similar sizes. The 54.6-inch is $3599.99, the 45.9-inch is $2799.99, the 39.9-inch is $2299.99 and available now. The 31.5-inch is priced at $1599.99 and will be available in June of this year.
