Here’s an idea: Create a television that maximizes both 16:9 and 4:3 viewing area. Too bad it would confuse the hell out of old folks.

I love it! The 16943 – get it? – is a few years too late but just look at it and imagine how it would work. 16:9 material would run natively on top while 4:3 material would rock in the large square area. But can’t you hear your grandpa yelling, asking why the whole TV isn’t showing the picture. Yeah, “Get rid of dat damn bar! Blah, blah, blah.”
