low_bluetoothThe Bluetooth Special Interest Group announced recently that they are working on a new protocol for Bluetooth devices. The new protocol is expected to be significantly more energy efficient, enabling Bluetooth to be used in devices that previously were incompatible.

The Bluetooth group expects that the new chipsets could be used for streaming video from your camcorder to your TV, or for putting caller ID in a wristwatch. They also stated that they are going to continue to limit the range, since Bluetooth has always been intended as a short range data transfer protocol.
