If you’ve been itching to try the latest musical Rhythm games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band, but haven’t had the chance to buy a new console since the 80s, this is for you. D-Pad Hero takes all the fun and excitement of the popular instrument-based games and crams it into a 256KB ROM.

More than your common (but excellent) ROM hack, this is a completely new game, something understandably rare for a quarter-century-old console — but not unprecedented.

It’s got a star-studded track list, including:

  • a-ha — The Swing of Things
  • Daft Punk — Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
  • Guns N’ Roses — Sweet Child o’ Mine
  • Michael Jackson — The Way You Make Me Feel

And more! Actually, no, that’s all (they’re all chipped by Snowbro). But don’t worry, you’ll never beat all of them, because the game is stupefyingly hard. I’ve never been good at rhythm games (guess why) but this one scrambled my brain in record time. Fire up your NES Emulator, get a gamepad out (highly recommended), and rock out with your Comcast out!
