Spotify scoops U2's new single prior to the album launch

Spotify, the Swedish startup whose streaming music service appears to have captured to hearts of geeks and early adopters everywhere, has won another coup. It is to stream U2’s new single “Get On Your Boots” just prior to its release. Although the single will be available as a digital download on February 15th through Mercury/Universal, Spotify appears to be among the first partners to get first crack at it. However, the startup isn’t saying exactly when the streaming will go live, just yet. has had its thunder stolen somewhat by U2 itself, as they are already streaming the song themselves. Well, I guess you gotta take what you can get.

To mark the occasion Spotify has put together a list of some of the big U2 tracks of all time. This link launches your Spotify software, assuming you are on the private beta.

The new U2 album, No Line On The Horizon, will be released on March 2nd. Get On Your Boots will come out in a “physical format” – whatever that is – on February 16th through Mercury/Universal.

In other news, I hear on the grapevine that Spotify now has 1 in 5 people in Sweden on its beta, which would equate to roughly 1.5 million people.

Update: ‘Get On Your Boots’ is also now available to stream in full, for free, at Last.fm
