Consumer Alert! Stay away from the Monster Cable AVL300 Remote

My second Monster Central Control System AVL 300 universal remote just died shortly after one year of use. The first one did the same but sucked it up then and purchased a second one; not anymore. To be honest, the remote seemed nice at first (my original review), but shortly after a month or two of use, it began to show it’s true evil Monster Cable side. The charging system sucks, the… → Read More

Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO revealed

The long-awaited announcement for the joint venture between LucasArts and BioWare has taken place, and it’s pretty much what everyone expected: an MMO set in the world of Knights of the Old Republic. Players will choose between the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire, and will be able to use lightsabers early in the game — which presents kind of a problem (aren’t they like the most… → Read More

Apple sells 6.9 million iPhones in Q4 of 2008, beats RIM at their own game

Hot off of Apple’s Q4 earnings call comes a bit of iPhone news: Alongside 2.6 million Macs and 11 million iPods, Apple managed to sell 6,892,000 iPhones in the fourth fiscal quarter of 2008. In contrast, they sold just 1,119,000 iPhones in fiscal Q4 of 2007. Feeling a bit spunky, Jobs’ mentioned that they’ve outsold some significant competition, saying “We’ve sold more phones than… → Read More

Biomimetic jumpbot powered by buzzer motor

I love this thing! And not just because I get to use the biomimetic tag. These French (?) researchers have created two different biomimetic robots: this jumping one and a phototaxic glider. Whose side will they be working for in the imminent Robocalypse? Maybe they’re looking for some hot government research contract action? The jumpbot is really extremely small, and it uses the same kind of… → Read More

54 Hours To Build A Company: A Look At Startup Weekend Phoenix

It’s been some time since we last covered Startup Weekend, a series of events that bring a roomful of developers and entrepreneurs together to develop new startups in only 54 hours. When the program originally launched last year, each weekend was geared towards building a single application, of which every participating member was a cofounder. Since then the format has changed – multiple… → Read More

SanDisk developing 128GB MicroSD cards for a 2011 release

It’s generally accepted that flash memory eventually doubles in capacity and apparently SanDisk is looking towards the future when 128 GB MicroSD cards are available. ‘cording to the Deccan Herald and SanDisk’s CEO though, those cards will not be available until 2011 and I am assuming they will be of the new SDHC flavor. Seeing as the largest widely available MicroSDHC card… → Read More

WTF is on the wall in The Big Bang Theory apartment

I love The Big Bang Theory TV show and while yesterday’s episodes wasn’t the greatest, it did provide a great close-up of something on Leonard and Sheldon’s wall, but I still don’t know what it is. Call me crazy, but I enjoy identifying different objects in movies and TV shows and I haven’t been able to figure out WTF this thing is. It appears to be to a row of large… → Read More

A year after launching its beta, Twine opened up today to the general public with a completely redesigned site. The relaunch got lots of coverage. Maybe you read some of it. Even if you did, you probably still don’t know what Twine does. Some semantic shit, right?

Screenshots of Walmart's New MP3-Only Store

It looks like Walmart has soft-launched it’s DRM-free MP3 store. The company decided to ditch its DRM approach, but then got into hot water with consumers once they figured out that Walmart was going to be taking down the servers they used to manage all the DRM rights. No servers, meant that they wouldn’t be able to listen to the songs they had legally purchased. So Walmart had to reverse→ Read More

London taxis going electrical, old sport, didn't you know?

The iconic TX4 taxis that crowd the streets of London are going to be getting an overhaul. In the interest of reducing costs, improving air quality, and replacing the aging fleet, they’ll be introducing new TX4 E electric taxis starting in early 2009. I think we can all agree that the air in London could use a bit of scrubbing; maybe they could mount big filters on the tops of these things… → Read More

Singer defends ‘offensive’ LittleBigPlanet song, says it was meant to attract people to Islam

Let me save you the trouble of reading more than 1,000 words regarding the removal of that offensive-to-Muslims song in LittleBigPlanet. Apple's new Macbooks and MBPs save energy with CFLs

Xbox Live Primetime delayed till spring

Announced at E3 along with the rest of NXE, Xbox Live Primetime sounded pretty gimmicky with “live” game shows, but it’s being held up to ensure that the rest of NXE rolls out smoothly. I’d be more inclined to believe such a statement, but it’s being delayed until the spring of ’09, which leads me to believe that it’s nowhere near ready for primetime. So, will NXE be ready by… → Read More

PSP-3000 screen defects a hardware feature, no way to fix 'em

MySpace for Android goes live but where's the music?
