    Top Ten Android Launch Apps

The first Android phone. the G1, goes on sale today at T-Mobile stores. And, although I have some issues with the software/hardware interface, those are more than overcome by all the great software on the phone. I’ve been testing out a phone for about a week, and I don’t think I’ve made more than five actual calls on the phone. For me, it’s all about the apps.

The apps I use the most come with… → Read More

‘Hybrid Dual Portable Computer’ gets Atom-ized

Back in March, you and I briefly chatted about the Hybrid Dual Portable Computer, or HDPC, from a company called MIU out of Korea. It appears that MIU has updated the once-chunky HDPC into a somewhat less-chunky version that now uses Intel’s Atom processor over its predecessor’s VIA C7M ULV chip. According to Jenn over at Pocketables, The “dual” part of the HDPC moniker stems from the fact… → Read More

Power sellers angry at eBay for feedback changes. BUY IT NOW!

I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again: eBay has reached its nadir. The once might giant is now facing competition not only from Craigslist but from online forums and shops where experts in their field, be it photography equipment to watches, are buying and selling to an informed audience. In short the economy of ignorance that drives most auctions is almost dead and everyone from Joe… → Read More

    iPhone iPhone iPhone! iPhone. iPhone.

Replace “Marcia” with iPhone AT&T is reporting a boom in customer acquisition and, it seems, a bust in profits. According to a recent earnings report, the company activated 2.4 million iPhones but lost $900 million in third-quarter earnings as a result of all the data and voice blowing through Apple’s darling. The iPhone, we see, is a double-edged sword. Because it goes out… → Read More

Alternative Android user interfaces that didn't make the cut

Android is now available—yeah, it’s true—but you’re hard-pressed to find any review that raves about its user interface. (Ryan Block, of Engadget fame, called it “very raw” last week on Tekzilla, which is right on the money, I think.) But, in an alternate world, maybe where dogs walk people, these alternative user interfaces were developed. The Astonishing Tribe, the… → Read More

Motorola Aura cell phone has a circular display

A few years ago on April Fool’s day, Geeks.com put up a product page for a 15-inch circular LCD monitor for $199.99 (if memory serves). The monitor looked pretty cool and everyone had a good chuckle at the thought of being able to somehow manufacture a display in anything but the shape of a square or rectangle. Fast forward to the present day and we now see that the upcoming Motorola Aura cell… → Read More

Video: India launches its first moon mission

Some good ol’ fashioned science news for you this dreary morning. Congrats are due to India, which launched its first moon mission a few hours ago. It’s an unmanned flight, so don’t expect to see video of Indian astronauts playing golf or cricket up there or anything. There will, however, be an Indian flag placed up there by the unmanned rover-dealie. The Chandrayaan-1… → Read More

Video: Here's the new Watchmen trailer

You probably need to be a comic book connoisseur to appreciate this, but here’s the new trailer for the upcoming movie Watchmen. Like the trailer that debuted alongside The Dark Knight, it still has that Smashing Pumpkins song in the background. Why that’s relevant, I don’t know. Still, as far as superhero movies go, this looks to be better than, say, The Fantastic Four, even… → Read More

Ignoring Downturns Is Unhealthy And Dangerous

Ok, here we go again. As soon as people get tired of blaming the venture capitalists for the downturn and layoffs, they start to point the finger at bloggers and journalists who write about them. Samsung: fine then, SanDisk! Be like that! Never mind on that offer to buy you

Oh, these multi-billion dollar companies and their flings! I thought they would have made such a cute match, too. Actually, probably not, but still. Was Samsung’s game just not good enough? Was SanDisk playing a little too hard to get? Romantic conceits aside, it looks like SanDisk just wasn’t willing to give in and give up control of such a strong brand to the beast that is Samsung. → Read More

    Navy designing UAV-borne drug-sniffer bots

Do they have so many boats to inspect that they can’t just hover over them to detect the good stuff? I guess so, because the Navy is spending a mint to create a “sensitive miniaturized sniffer” that can be placed on board (or stowed away in, or fired onto) suspicious vessels. After only six seconds, it’ll relay its findings back to the mothership or whatever, saying whether… → Read More
