Matsushita aka Panasonic Lumix G-series camera will shoot in HD, coming Spring 2009

At a press conference in Japan for the Lumix G1, Matsushita aka Panasonic revealed that an upcoming Lumix G-series will, in fact, shoot in HD. Matsushita claims that the camera will be a ‘world’s first’ with an interchangeable lens and the ability to use the autofocus function for shooting in HD. It’s unknown what compression will be used, but it will more than likely be H.264, says Tech On. Pricing is expected to be around $1500+.

This high-end DSLR market is starting to heat up with Canon’s announcement of the 5D Mark II and the Nikon D90 a few weeks back.
