According to the latest Manufactured Product Indices from PriceSCAN, Blu-ray players are dropping in price. Thank goodness.

The price index for Blu-ray players fell just 12 percent over all of Q3 2008, according to the company. The PriceSCAN Blu-ray player index is a price-weighted index comprised of the average retail price of Blu-ray players.

Hopefully, with Christmas right around the corner, we will see some even bigger drops in price. If Blu-ray is too break-free of the niche market, the player prices will need to drop even more or the format will live a Laserdisc-ish life.
