Video: "Max Payne" trailer

http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?umid=258567 Oddly reminiscent of “Constantine” and a few otherworldly titles that seem to have escaped my mind at the moment, but I can honestly say that I’m excited for this one. Dark and brooding with good looking dames and explosions. Sounds like a fantastic combo to me. → Read More

Caught in the act: Panasonic's Vieracast, NeoPDP ‘slim’ HDTV

My friends! IFA is beginning to take off, and I finally had a few minutes to grab some photos of some that Panasonic hotness I mentioned yesterday. Behold, Vieracast. Like I said, it’s sorta like Dashboard for Mac OS X. The screen is filled with a bunch of non-moving widgets that show the weather, stocks, etc. It’s not really a huge deal, but it’s something that many TV manufacturers are starting to include. And that TV in the gallery is the prototype NeoPDP, the “slim” one. Yeah, sure, it’s slim, but damn near every HDTV is slim these days. (More on that tomorrow, I think.) Again, the NeoPDP technology is still, let’s say, in beta, so it’ll be a while before we see anything like that at a Best Buy or anything. Also, I’m thinking of going around to all the big booths—Sony, Samsung, LG, etc.—and doing a little of that Photosynth magic. Then you’d get an idea of just how overbearing this can be. → Read More

Charge your kids for making you drive them around

Do you have no-good, bratty, whiney kids who think the world revolves around them and make you drive them to all the cool hangouts around town just so they can avoid having to sit by themselves in the cafeteria even though all that stuff won’t matter by the time they’re 30 and actually realize how ridiculously unimportant their lives were when they were in middle school? Me neither, but I can’t wait to have kids. I think I’d be a pretty cool dad. → Read More

Microsoft Says Hello to Ciao, Buys European Shopping Site

Microsoft has agreed to acquire a Connecticut-based research company called Greenfield Online, which runs both a website called Ciao for European comparison shoppers and an online survey system that helps businesses conduct market research.

The cash tender offer to buy out all of Greenfield’s outstanding shares amounts to roughly $486 million, about $60 million more than investment firm Quadrangle recently offered to pay for Greenfield. Microsoft has already found an unnamed party to buy Greenfield’s surveys division from it, leaving the Redmond, WA-based company with the remaining Ciao subsidiary. → Read More

iPhone projector dock

This thing just makes sense – lots and lots of sense. It’s the Honlai Qingbar MP101 and I have no idea if you can actually buy one. If and when you’re indeed able to purchase this doodad, you’ll be able to project 640×480 movies and photos from your iPhone (or iPod Touch) while charging the device at the same time. The bulb is apparently good for at least 20,000 hours and there’s a built-in 2W speaker. Contrast ratio is a little on the puny side at 200:1 but, hey, this thing will probably be inexpensive and, if so, I’d buy one for my iPod Touch. Qingbar MP101 [via Newlaunches] → Read More

Replica Star Wars Landspeeder looks amazing, works

Here’s a landspeeder built by a guy who really doesn’t want to be mistaken for Joey Fatone. The guy in the photo (which we used without permission) is actually Joey Fatone. The guy who built the landspeeder, Daniel Deutsch, sent us numerous e-mails demanding that we either correct the post (which originally alluded to the idea that Joey Fatone either built the landspeeder or Daniel Deutsch looked a lot like Joey Fatone) or take it down. He also reminded us each time that we used his image without permission. I updated the post twice to reflect that Deutsch and Fatone are two different people, but Deutsch asked that I remove the text because “that is not what people see when they skim headlines” and he’s “gotten emails asking about this even after the update.” So I’ve removed all the original text and retyped the post with this information, which has little to do with the actual Landspeeder itself. Hope this clears things up. See more photos here and read up on how fair use works here. [via Newlaunches] → Read More
