Patents for Sale: Dual-screen split keyboard eyesore

keyboard-with-wings

Okay, here we go. This is a notebook comprised of a split keyboard. An ergonomic keyboard, if you will. When you separate the two halves of the keyboard, there’s a screen inside. There’s also a larger screen attached to hinges on the top of said keyboard. So you get two screens folded up into one keyboard. The company behind this design, EKI, is apparently looking to ship this to OEM’s this year. It’s also looking to sell the patents if you’re into that kind of thing.

This is a complete notebook system, although I wonder how it’d work as just a peripheral – plugging into an existing laptop or desktop system. Either way, I wish it looked nicer because I could almost see myself using this for some real hardcore blogging while on the road. My rig at home has three screens and sometimes it’s hard going to just a single notebook display when traveling.

EKI suggests that OEM manufacturers could sell it for between $1,000 and $2,000. I’d suggest making it look a lot nicer first. That, or lowering the price.
