Really, is there any better way to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Japanese Iron and Steel Federation than busting out a 4,000 pound model of a VOTOMS mech made entirely of iron? I sure as hell don’t think so. Well, okay – a bit of steel somewhere in the mix might have made it even more fitting. But, come on – it’s two friggin tons of iron shaped like a robot that could destroy your everything.

The artist, Kogoro Kurata, sculpted this 1:1 model of a VOTOMS Scopedog unit back in 2005, simply because he knew it could be done. After completion, this 4 meter statue has made its way from exhibition to exhibition, dwarfing (and probably intimidating) everyone who paused for the photo-op.

Anyone else wonder what Kurata does with it when it’s not on display? If nothing else, it’d make one hell of a lawn ornament.
