2x_76 Quad-core mobile chips are coming from Intel next month. Still no word on when we’ll actually see enough applications that take advantage of all four cores at once, but that’s a different story for a different time.

The chips will fall into the Core 2 Extreme family and are expected to fetch a pretty penny. IDG News Service reports that one Australian notebook manufacturer is already offering a 2.53GHz Core 2 Extreme mobile chip as a $1,390 upgrade, which is more than the base-level price of the notebook itself.
