Piggy bank for RPG fans to be released in Japan

Takara Tomy announced they will roll out a mixture between a savings box and an RPG in Japan on August 7th. The so-called “Bankquest” [JP] will cost $37.

Players will be able to boost their character’s skills by placing any coin from 1 to 500 Yen into the lid of the box. Takara Tomy says the game will feature more than 160 items (weapons, healing drinks, armor etc.) you can buy. The more you save, the stronger the hero becomes. More than 180 different pixel monsters must be fought off to finish the game.

Players can watch the story evolve on a small LCD screen located on the front of the piggy bank. The goal is to go up the 100 floors of the little castle one by one in order to defeat “Warudara”, the great devil king, who is waiting on the roof.

Bankquest is powered by 3 AA batteries and can be filled up with up to 50,000 Yen ($460). It will not be released outside of Japan.
