Canon Rebel XS/1000D: new sub-450D consumer grade DSLR

The naming terminology is getting problematic here. The Rebel line has gone from 350 to 400 to 450 since I’ve had one, with all kinds of sub-names, and now there’s a Rebel 1000D which apparently is less powerful than the 450D/XSi. It’ll sell for cheaper and have somewhat downgraded performance.

So the 1000D will probably be priced around $500, which makes it an easy first choice for someone getting into the game. Here are the vital statistics, compared with the 450D, which goes for about $800:
