RecommendBox secures angel round

RecommendBox, the new UK startups built around recommendations instead of reviews, has secured angel funding from Brendan McLoughin, the co-founder and CEO of Fubra, who joins the team as a non-executive director. The amount was not disclosed but is believed to be in the five-figure range. McLoughin, according to his blog, considers his stake a “conservative” investment compared to investing in commodities. I explained RecommendBox’s model here.

RecommendBox appears to be gaining traction but seems to still be confined to an early-adopter social network so far. A Twitter integration is in the pipeline. So far it feels more like a place to recommend a good bar than a plasma screen TV but maybe that will change – they only just launched afterall.

Other UK/Irish sites competing in this space include Reevoo, BoxedUp, LouderVoice and CrowdStorm. Watch out for our comparative review in a couple of weeks.
