'Rock Band' for Wii up for pre-order on Gamestop

Rock_band_cover I have a Wii and an Xbox 360. I currently own Rock Band and all the accoutrements for the Xbox 360 but I’m intrigued by the fact that on the Wii version, according to IGN, “the instruments will work wirelessly directly with the Wii console,” because the cord situation tends to get a little out of control sometimes with the Xbox 360 version.

However, you know what’s missing from the Wii version? Online everything. No multiplayer and no downloading new tracks. Harmonix has decided “to focus on getting the core gameplay on to the Wii and focus on making that awesome.”

Now I don’t want to single Harmonix out because I think it’s a good company but when are we going to stop getting this excuse? It’s not just Harmonix, it’s plenty of other development houses too. The Wii’s been out for almost a year and a half now and developers are still bypassing online features in order to “focus on the core gameplay.” Sometimes the online features are a big part of the core gameplay. Much of the allure of Rock Band is the ability to download new tracks and play online.

Still, if the Wii’s your only console, I’d highly recommend this game. It’s plenty of fun, with or without online play.
