Signal smoke detector really lets you know when it's time to replace the batteries

Smoke detectors save lives, but only if they’re working properly. This detector, called Signal and designed by one Matthew Jobson, opens up and basically slams an anvil over your head, reminding you to change its batteries. A simple idea, to be sure, but one that could help, oh I don’t know, someone like me.

About a month ago my carbon monoxide/smoke detector starting going off for no reason. Who knows, maybe the batteries were dead. All I know is, I totally just unplugged it and have been sans detector ever since. Oh, and in high school one of my car’s daytime running lights went out so rather than drive around like a jerk with one light on 24/7, I disabled them completely following directions I found on some anti-DRL Web site. Such is my life.
