Verizon Wireless Acquires Ramcell

verizon.jpgVerizon Wireless has acquired rural mobile carrier Ramcell, which operates in Kentucky and Oregon using the TDMA standard,, the company announced yesterday. Subscribers and networks will be converted to CDMA by Verizon, while the networks will be upgraded to EV-DO Rev. A. This acquisition includes the Ramcell spectrum license, and covers about 300,000 people in the Clay and Madison, Kentucky markets, and another 274,000 in Coos, Oregon.

Financial details have not been disclosed. And this acquisition will greatly increase Verizon Wireless’s coverage in both areas.
