Apple To Ramp Up Game Development?

AppleHistorically, Apple and gaming have gone together like oil and water. So it stands to reason that gaming might be the next mighty mountain for Apple to conquer.

Announcements at WWDC from EA and id Software hint at the availability of new Apple-flavored games. EA’s supposedly putting out Mac versions of its Madden and Command & Conquer franchises and id’s John Carmack expressed interest in developing games for the iPhone.

The Command & Conquer news is somewhat provacative in that its website contains a teaser saying the the game will be “revolutionized” today, August 7th, the same day that Steve Jobs is making a bunch of announcements.

So what does Apple have up its sleeve? New games for OS X and the iPhone or an entirely new gaming platform altogether? We’ll find out in the next couple of hours.
