Paying Too Much for Mobile? Move to Canada!

canada.jpgIt seems everyone complains about the cost of their wireless plan, despite the fact that compared to the early days of cellular calls the costs are reasonable. Plus the service providers keep in throwing in all sorts of free extras, and making it affordable to do just about everything on your phone. But of course we like to complain. So if you’re feeling that your mobile service is too expensive consider a trip to our neighbor to the North.

The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) has announced that a new comprehensive report by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has found that mobile phone users in Canada are getting a good deal with their wireless plans. These prices were found to be among the most competitive among the 30 member countries of the OECD.

“This report, as well as other recent studies, offers even further evidence that true competition in the wireless industry is providing Canadian customers with excellent value compared to customers in other countries,” said CWTA President & CEO Peter Barnes. “The new OECD data should also put to rest the distorted information about the true state of wireless pricing in Canada put forth by companies seeking entry into the wireless marketplace through taxpayer-subsidies and other uncompetitive measures.”

The report shows that wireless prices in Canada compare very favorably with those of the EU nations included in the study, and are “better” than those of the United States or Mexico.
