Rumor: Taiwan's Wintek to Supply iPod Touchscreens

Although declining to comment, Taiwanese electonics manufacturer Wintek has allegedly been chosen to supply the touchscreens for the still-rumored new video iPods shipping this fall.

This information comes from sources along Wintek’s supply chain and the fact that Wintek cited customer confidentiality as the reason for not commenting on the matter might be a good sign that it’s true.

Wintek is known for using a technology known as chip-on-film, a flexible piece of film mounted with components and often used in small-screen devices like cell phones. The film can be folded in places containing no components (like corners), which would make it a good option if Apple were to stretch the screen across the entire front of the yet-to-be-officially-announced device.
