Friday, June 29, 2007. iDay, in marketing lingo, the day Apple released a widget that compelled grown men to use words like “awesome” and “cool” to describe a fancier-than-most cellphone. Where were you that day? Where were you at 6 p.m. when it officially launched to an amount of pomp and circumstance usually reserved for a Roman triumph? Throughout the day I was out and about Manhattan taking pictures and muttering to myself about how silly it all was. Then, at the fateful hour, Peter and I went to the SoHo store, watching Spike Lee stand idly by the front door, waiting for it to open.

And you were where, dear reader? At the office? Refreshing gadget blogs like the dickens? Waiting in line for your Precious? Or getting hammered at the local tavern?
