Apparently Windows can’t keep its big mouth shut. After some digging, a number of sites have found mention of Windows Vista SP1 in Microsoft Downloads, the service Microsoft offers for updates and other big file downloads.

What does this mean? Essentially it looks like Service Pack 1 exists within Microsoft’s own confined workspace and that some technical writer didn’t realize that it’s not everywhere yet. I suspect this will go away quite soon, but it does mean that there is some sort of SP1 candidate in the wild somewhere, which means it could be ready this summer. Good sleuthing, people who care about this stuff!
