There’s some sort of automotive trade show going on in New York right now and one of the highlights is an exhibition showcasing taxis of the future. It’s called Taxi 07 and includes various concepts and prototypes of what you might see on the streets of New York one day. Lots of the concepts focus on improving accessibility for the disabled, while others try to be as environmentally conscious as possible. The Standard Taxi (picture here) combines both approaches: there’s enough space inside to fit a wheelchair and a taxi-specific powertrain improves fuel consumption and emissions. Alternative fuel-powered taxis are also on display, but that’ll never catch on in the real world.
