It's iPod Speakers And a Pet Carrier! Hooray!

Now whenever you have access to a cellphone you’ll have access to Mayo Clinic-approved medical advice. Digital Cyclone has developed InTouch, an application for cellphones that stores all sorts of useful, everyday medical tips, such as where to find the newest medical care facility to how to treat minor injuries. The application costs $2.99 per month and works on Verizon, Cingular (AT&T nowadays), Sprint and Alltel. Essentially, it’s a first aid kit that fits in your pocket, just without all those cumbersome bandages and ointments.

This video shows InTouch in action, complete with a detailed report on acupuncture. Its interface looks clean enough, with sensible categories like “Bites” and “Emergency Room Finder.” A neat idea that actually tries to help people? I’m surprised—though delighted—to hear that those are still around.

    First of all–love the Jimmy Hendrix reference, and listening to “Wind Cries Mary” while reading became a bit surreal. Good stuff all around.

    Also it is appropriate to use streaming video in this article because streaming is one of the best use cases for Cloud Computing.     Great post Steve… it’s funny that we were thinking Jimi about the same time, his alien intelligence equating to new language and new understanding. Gerrish and I riffed on it for a while in terms of track, proving once again the interconnected nature of it all and how a foundation in advanced languages can sometimes lead to new paradigms.

    The anger and reluctance to change finds itself in all cultures and businesses at some point, the true test of whether or not a group can change shape, continuing to grow. So we end up with devices that communicate to a network where information is stored, both ours and others, known and unknown. Take it from somebody who has spend over 20 years traveling with way too much media in way too many formats that the idea of being able to just access it from the network from a mobile device is very appealing.

    So what will the middlemen of music do? Will they morph? Will they become PR firms, e-commerce sites for individual artists, old time A&R ears with the ability to help artists get past the filters and become viral? Established artists who have a following can survive on a smaller level, taking a bigger piece of the pie than before, sometimes making more than when they were in a “big” contract. The new artists will have to live on their merits as artists, touch ears and hearts unless they jump into the grist mill of Idol worship and watch their careers half-life drop into mere moments.

    It’s still all about the song.
