Alienware Area-51 m5790 Special Edition

CES hasn’t yet gotten full swing, but the Pepcom event was tonight and there were several items of interest. I’m a little stretched for time at the moment, because I’m exhausted and about to pass out, but I wanted to make a quick blurb about one of the new Alienware laptops being launched later this week.

The Area-51 m5790 Special Edition is the first Alienware laptop to have an option for an overclocked Core 2 Duo processor. So instead of the standard top 2.33Ghz processor, one can get up to a 2.66Ghz Merom—which I assume should be crazy fast. It can also support up to a 400GB RAID 0 setup and 2GB of 667Mhz memory.

On the graphics side, the system has an ATI Mobility Radeon X1900 GPU. It has a 17-inch 1920×1200 WUXGA Clearview display, making it rather massive, but oh so pretty. It will be available by the end of this week.

And a bit further down the pipe is the Area-51 m9750. It’s similar in a lot of ways, but it will be the first Alienware Area-51 laptop to support SLI Nvidia graphics. It should be out later this spring.

These systems are essentially desktop replacements. They’re geared specifically toward gamers who travel to LAN tournaments and don’t feel like lugging around huge desktops. That should give you a bit of perspective as to why they are so heavy themselves.
