PS3 An Engineering Masterpiece?

Market intelligence firm iSuppli is calling the Sony PlayStation 3 an engineering masterpiece offering supercomputer performance at an entry-level PC price. This follows the company’s teardown analysis of the system, which estimates the combined materials and manufacturing cost of the 20GB version at $805.85 and $840.35 for the 60GB model; the units will sell for $499 and $599, respectively. There’s a chart after the jump that shows the breakdown of pricing, part by part.

iSuppli also says Sony has offered an amazing level of performance for the cost with help from Nvidia (a dual graphics processor solution), IBM (Cell Broadband Engine CPU), and Samsung (advanced XDR DRAM).
