Xbox 360 Update Still Not So Rosy

Following the recent Microsoft Xbox 360 dashboard update, users are reporting that they are unable to play games, and unable to play on Live. The problem, known as ERROR CODE E71, has been acknowledged by Microsoft, who stated that only 1% of Xbox 360 users are experiencing the problem. Seeing as how the big Xbox 360 title Gears of War is due out in 4 days, this is the worst time of the year for owners to experience problems with their Xbox 360s. Microsoft also stated,

We’re working with those affected to get them back up and running, whether that be by providing another console, or fixing their existing console. We’re committed to resolving this issue. Over the next 24 hours, our product team will be working to ensure that those unaffected remain unaffected.

The repair and replacement usually takes two weeks (and you’ll have to pay for shipping), so even if you send your console in today, you still won’t get it back in time for Gears of War or Call of Duty 3, which release next week. ERROR CODE E71 goes hand-in-hand with Microsoft’s attempt to ban 360 modders, which is also causing problems with Xbox 360 owners who have not modded their consoles. If you are experiencing problems with your console- don’t wait around, contact Microsoft immediately for a replacement console.
