PlayStation 3 Hands-On Preview

Sony’s PlayStation 3 event in NY finally let gamers get their hands on near-complete versions of PlayStation 3 games. Along with nice 1080p HDTVs and cool-looking chairs, gamers got to play the big PS3 launch title Resistance: Fall of Man. Also having tried out the game earlier today, I’ve got to say that I’m disappointed in the game so far. Though the PS3 supports 1080p, Resistance did not look any different than games we’ve already seen on the PC and Xbox 360. That’s not to say the graphics are bad, because they aren’t, but they are not anything we haven’t seen before. On top of that, there weren’t any cool features revealed to me in the two hours I played the game. It’s a basic run-and-gun FPS, nothing to go crazy about. You’ll be happy to know that the SIXAXIS’ motion-sensing functionality will be a part of Resistance: Fall of Man, as it is used to get the blood-sucking aliens off your body when they are biting you.

The game I was most impressed with was Sony’s Lair. We didn’t get to play a demo of the game, but Sony did show a trailer of it, which was promised to be all in-game footage, none of that teaser crap. Lair sported some of the best visuals I’ve ever seen, period. The game isn’t due out till March 2007, so at least that will give you an actual chance of owning a PS3 by the time the game comes out. Check out some more photos after the jump.
