This isn’t the first external sound enhancement product from Creative, but it certainly looks the most promising. Compatible with Windows and Mac computers and basically any audio player available, the Xmod connects between your headphones/speakers and your source, upconverting the audio to Creative’s X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity 24-bit surround audio standard. For use with an MP3 player you’ll need an optional AC power adapter, but otherwise it gets its power from your computer. And it’s plug and play, so you don’t have to install software or convert files. The Creative Xmod will be available this month for $79.99.
