Paltalk Tells Xbox Live to Shut Up

Paltalk is a small company that specializes in server-group messaging. Somehow, they think that Microsoft’s Xbox Live service, which allows multi-player gamers to chat with one another in real time, infringes on a couple of their patents. Not only this, but they’re taking them to trial in East Texas.

Why East Texas? Apparently, the district court there is more prone to guilty verdicts towards infringers than elsewhere. And since you can assume there are Xbox Live players there, it’s legally possible to sue there.

It’s wrangling, to be sure, but look for Microsoft to settle this case quickly (if Paltalk has a case), or stomp them out of existence via a protracted, sweaty series of court sessions.

Don’t worry, Geek, your Xbox Live will be around long after you.
