, Gateway has announced that their laptop batteries are fine, thank you for asking, and that they won’t be exploding in your face any time soon. A quote, straight from the Gateway’s mouth:

Gateway has extensive measures in place to ensure product safety. Based on available information and our suppliers’ input, we do not believe our systems are at risk for the same malfunctions that caused our competitors to issue battery recalls. It appears that a combination of factors led to the fault requiring the recalls, and this combination is not present in our systems. Gateway notebooks use different battery cells than those implicated in our competitor’s recalls. We also made different design decisions in the interest of the customer, which appear to prevent the issues involved. As always, we continue to be diligent in our efforts to deliver products that provide industry-leading quality, reliability and safety.
