The whole digital era is coming on so fast that it’s pretty much hard for ANYONE to be an expert the way it works socially to write it down. We do know that Obama used it succesfully, and may that’s enough. I’m ok with the whole lot moving forward at a rapid unpredictable pace as long as digital security to protect my own identity and assets is a top priority. Otherwise, let’s enjoy the ride and watch the circus unfold.

Can somebody tell us if it’s weed, crack or meth what we need to “get” this?

Steve, take no offense but… The message gets lost in between so many ideas that you wanted to not only convey but connect… It’s like you are trying to say something really simple but had to fill your post with “this” many words…

An update on how’s rehab would be nice!

Perhaps you, dear readers, like a ‘just the facts’ approach. Perhaps you don’t like parsing sentences or paragraphs or (surely not) whole articles with unusual phrasing or structure. Perhaps your minds simply cannot distill the salient points. How will you survive in the marketplace without keen observational skills?

How will Steve Gillmor? If readers are continually dissatisfied, perhaps he should take heed. Steve, write for the neanderthal, it seems to be working for CNN and Fox. If you can’t lower yourself to that, maybe you should try writing a novel?

Anyway: onto Steve. Today’s article, Fork in the Road, says that broadcast media is going bye-bye, and it will be replaced with on-demand, targeted content. Furthermore, this can be demonstrated by the adoption of this medium by people as diverse as Neil Young and Barack Obama.

Theme: The web makes production and distribution of content more democratic.

-State of the Union is now a webcast, on a two-way medium (the web) not a one-way radio rebroadcast

-Content on TV is not only available when the channel owner/ content producer dictates, but on-demand as the consumer dictates (or cable provider)

- Professional artists (in this case Neil Young) are producing content and delivering it in near real-time in way where the consumers can directly talk back to the producer without the traditional gatekeepers in the way

- Obama’s campaign effectively used technology to take the message directly to voters and get them excited without having to be entrenched within the DNC (i.e. 8 years ago Clinton would have one because of political connections)

Maybe I’ll do a bullet point version for those that find his stream-of-consciousness method elusive.
